WHAT IS A CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) connects consumers with local farmers to provide access to fresh and chemical free food at a discounted rate. Because we live in a large city, we have limited access to organically grown regional produce. The geography of Rockaway makes it even harder for us to easily access fresh food. When you become a member of a CSA you agree to purchase a share of vegetables (or other items from a farm) in advance. This monetary advance enables the farmer to determine how much to grow and helps to pay for the large costs they incur in the beginning of a season. In return, you are provided with the freshest products possible. Since all farmers are regional, products will never travel a far distance to get to you, nor will they be sitting on a shelf for days like in a supermarket. It’s also a great way to support small businesses and sustainable agriculture. 

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE Summer SHARE?

Each week you will receive the following items along with a newsletter that will explain what the items are, how to store them and recipe suggestions.

  • Fresh Produce from Edgemere Farm such as greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, and herbs
  • 1/2 dozen Certified organic eggs from Handsome Brook Farms in Franklin, NY
  • Vegetables such as carrots, beets, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and onions from specific farms within Corbin Hill’s network

In addition, you will have the option to purchase fresh bread from Arts in Parts and additional 1/2 dozen of eggs.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

You pay $600 upfront to reserve your Full share or $350 for a Half share box. You will receive a weekly box of fresh vegetables and eggs over the course of 20 weeks. You can also purchase additional eggs and bread from Arts in Parts.

WHAT ARE THE PICKUP DATES?

The Summer CSA runs from June 20th through October totaling 20 pickups. You can pick up your box on Saturday of every week from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM.

WHERE DO I PICKUP?

Pickup is at Edgemere Farm Stand, 385 Beach 45th st. 

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

You can choose the items you want from our CSA page. We accept Visa and MasterCard.

CAN I CUSTOMIZE MY BOX?

Your box cannot be customized, however, we may have additional products available that you can purchase. Each week prior to pickup we will email you with a list of what you can expect in your upcoming share. Please remember that we will make our best estimates, but since we are working with Mother Nature last minute substitutions can occur.

WHAT IF I DON’T LIKE AN ITEM IN MY BOX?

Boxes will contain most universally appreciated vegetables. Less common items are added to boxes only periodically and in appropriate proportions. In addition, we may have a swap bin stocked with extras that you can trade for on the pickup day. 

WHAT IF I DON'T RECOGNIZE AN ITEM IN MY BOX?

Each box will come with a newsletter containing information on where the products were grown/produced, how to store, popular methods of cooking, and suggested recipes. We are also available by phone or email to answer any questions you might have. 

DO YOU OFFER HALF SHARES?

Yes! Half shares are available and will happen every other week through the summer, totaling 10 boxes. 

CAN I SPLIT A SHARE WITH A FRIEND?

Absolutely. You will be responsible for dividing the box up among yourselves. The box will be labeled with the name of the person that ordered the share. If you are sharing pickup responsibilities just let us know in advance so we know who will be coming.

WHAT IF I AM NOT ABLE TO PICK UP MY SHARE?

Unfortunately, we do not have adequate storage to hold your share for you. We strongly recommend that you ask a friend or neighbor to pick it up and just let us know in advance. At the end of distribution all extras are given to Arts in Parts for their children’s program.

DO YOU OFFER A WORK SHARE PROGRAM?

You may be able to pay off your share with hours worked at the farm. If you are interested in this option please contact us. 

DO YOU CUSTOM DELIVER?

We believe that everyone should have access to fresh farm food. If you have special needs and cannot travel, please contact us and we will arrange for delivery.
